notable people
[edit]Are these notable people actually notable? Members of notable bands would be notable to note, but not just every volunteer (old or not). Kellen T 21:33, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I agree, there is no notability for these individuals unless context is given for what they did. Also I think all of these bands aren't really notable either. hotdiggitydogs 22:57, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- I removed them. Kellen T 10:04, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
notable bands
[edit]I added some info that I had put here and re-organized it a little. More definitely needs to be included but it's a starting point. also added some bands, there are tons more but I don't want to become an out-of-control mega-list.hotdiggitydogs 20:08, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Rage against the Machine played at the Che? Really. Huh. wasserperson 06:02, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Mmmm yeah... probably not. It's not verifiable via google anyway. We should probably just remove the whole section. Kellen T 08:39, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
I think there's at least a few on the list that are accurate and notable. Chumbawumba, Green Day, Le Tigre, Locust... I'd say a band is worth listing if it:
A: Has records released on a notable label
B: Demonstrably played at the Che (though the OR line gets blurry)
C: Developed a following in part through playing at the Che. So Locust and Le Tigre in, Green Day perhaps not so much.
wasserperson 18:07, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well Green Day did play at the che, and are pretty notable, but I get your point. Kellen T 08:01, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Removed Rage Againts the Machine due to no variability. I think I might have to agree with Kellen with removing that section, seems kinda redundant to have it there in the first place. Just look at the other venues listed the Che article. Oh, by the way, I might put a picture up for this article. I'll take one with a digital camera this week. Thanks RiseRobotRise 09:48, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
The list of notable bands has become exactly what the person who created the list feared (an "out of control mega-list"). Several of the bands listed are not really notable and are without wikipedia pages themselves. At least one linked to a non-band page. I removed the section and included a half-dozen or so of the most notable bands in the article itself. I think if the article gives an indication of the types of bands and music presented at the Che there is no need for a list of 40 bands cherry picked from all the bands who have played there. (oh, and i still have an issue with the "see also" list as well :) ) ikes 16:50, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing that stuff, looks good! I took out a few of the venues that are not really relevant as they are just other US venues who host DIY shows. Left a couple places elsewhere in the country who have a similar organizational structure and practice as the Che and left the Casbah as it's located in the same city and there is a lot of overlap with booking bands between the two. hotdiggitydogs 05:23, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for removing the list of bands. I thought it was nessarry too. We should come up with a to do list for this article. So we can turn it from being a "start class" article to ... well mabye a "featured article"? imagine the che cafe being on the Wikipedia main page, that would be a great day, but serously, photos, elaborate on history, social impact on the music scene etc, its possible. -- RiseRobotRise 06:12, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- It's going to be really hard to find reliable sources about the che's old time history. Old copies of the new indicator (UCSD student paper) might have bits about it and occasionally there might have been UCSD Guardian articles on it, but none of this stuff is online. Maybe I'll try to have a look next time I'm at UCSD. Kellen T 07:42, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Kellen, maybe while you're out here we could make a trip down south and dig up some of this stuff. I don't have any other reason to go to SD (because traveling that far just to eat a Pokez burrito isn't really justifiable). Let's totally collab on this soon! hotdiggitydogs 18:10, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well I gots to go down to visit fam fam, and probably visit employers. so yeah we can totally do this. PS! good job using wikipedia in place of personal email! Kellen T 20:31, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
