Minor Flag Change

[edit]

Manuel Carlos Mouriño Atanes made his fortune and lived in Mexico, he however was born in Spain. 86.134.2.145 (talk) 23:32, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

celtiña

[edit]

The term "celtiña" refers to the team itself, not the fans. It is a fairly common mistake among non-Galician speakers, but it is incorrect and should be changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.7.139.215 (talk) 12:24, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm from Vigo and I couldn't agree more. We refer to the team as O Celtiña (Lovely/little Celta), not to the fans. We even do so when speaking Spanish, as in: ¿Cómo quedó el Celtiña? (What was the result of Celta's match?). I've just changed it.--VaiPolaSombra (talk) 21:38, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name Change Proposal

[edit]

Proposing the idea of moving this article from "Celta de Vigo" to "Real Club Celta de Vigo". The full name of the club should be the name of the article with the shortened common name featured more prevalently within it. --Blackbox77 (talk) 03:59, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Not that I'm particularly fond of Celta being royal, but the official name of the team is Real Club Celta de Vigo and I think that's what the title of the article should be.--VaiPolaSombra (talk) 21:45, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal for removal of 'de' in article title.

[edit]

What are people's thoughts on removing 'de' from the article title? I feel it isn't necessary as this isn't used in the English translation. Media coverage of football proves this. Also, it is also common on Wikipedia, for example Atlético Madrid, Athletic Bilbao and FC Barcelona amongst others, do not have 'de' carried from their full name to their common name as seen in the article titles. I feel some consensus is required between all Spanish football club pages on Wikipedia, as at the minute it seems to be a little mixed. TGB13 (talk) 17:23, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Celta de VigoRC Celta – As happened with FC Dnipro, now Celta removed "de Vigo" from its common denomination at their website and their short denomination at LaLiga website. Anyway, I don't understand why do we continue writing "Celta Vigo" instead of simply "Celta" as there is not any other notable team in Europe called "Celta". Celta de VigoCelta Vigo – The current name is some sort of halfway house between the club's full official name (Real Club Celta de Vigo or RC Celta de Vigo) and the widely accepted short name used by most English-language media (see BBC, Sky Sports, The Guardian and ESPN for examples). Either we should go with RC Celta de Vigo or Celta Vigo, not this bastard child of the two. – PeeJay 11:27, 23 May 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. Dekimasuよ! 20:22, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
