Bu-ston Rinpoche
[edit]David B. Gray's essay Compassionate Violence?: On the Ethical Implications of Tantric Buddhist Ritual, Journal of Buddhist Ethics, Volume 14, 2007 mentions of Bu-ston Rinpoche in the following context: page 255: "There is also evidence suggesting that tantras containing violent rituals were selectively translated or censored in Tibet during the late eighth and early ninth centuries, when Indian Buddhist literature was being translated with imperial support. fn49"
pages 264, 265, fn49: "Bu-ston Rinpoche reported that the early kings were concerned about the transgressive elements in the Mahayoga tantras, and ordered that they could only be translated with royal transmission. See Gray (2007:81-82). Leonard van der Kujip has identified an instance of bowdlerization in an early dynastic translation of one of the tantras (1992:116)."
It would be nice to find the information within the reports of Bu-ston Rinpoche.

Judging from the biographical dates this is not the same person Bu-ston. He is, according to wikipedia linking.
