Talk:Burke's Boy
Proposed deletion/merge
[edit]I've removed the proposed deletion template. The nominator asked, "shall every winner, every year of every major event get its own article?" Human athletes, per WP:BIO, get articles for merely competing at a level lower than this. For example this player has played in one match at the fourth level of English football and gets an article on that basis. Shouldn't similar standards be applied to equine athletes?
I don't agree that a merge to Pippa Funnell would be appropriate, because this article can be expanded to include performances with other riders. Phil Bridger (talk) 11:23, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm. My take is that the human is also not necessarily worth an encyclopedia article on the basis of the stated accomplishments, either. I mean, what about you and me? Should WE get our own wikipedia articles too? Hey! I won $10 with a lottery ticket once! (LOL!!) Where does it end? I don't mean that just in jest, I really do wonder how strictly WP:Notability should be applied. Montanabw(talk) 02:59, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
This is useful, and I believe supports merging: "Family members of celebrities should generally be merged with the articles about celebrities themselves, unless: The family member meets notability requirements themselves, eg. Ashlee Simpson and Jessica Simpson; not Dina Lohan. If such a subsection in the main article becomes large and unwieldy, then a separate article may become valid, although the section should also be reviewed for trivia before a separate article is actually written."
