At present the title of this article is Karakachan Dog. Is that the correct name of the breed, or is it just the "Karakachan"? Sources I have found appear to be inconsistent. To put it another way, if we were including this breed in a list, would we say "Newfoundland, Karakachan Dog, Australian Cattle Dog, Beagle", or "Newfoundland, Karakachan, Australian Cattle Dog, Beagle"?
If it is the "Karakachan Dog", we should use this name throughout the article, with a capital "D". If it is a breed of dog called the "Karakachan", we should use that throughout, and change the title of the article to Karakachan (dog) as per the MOS. The article says "The Karachan is part of the origin of the Bulgarian Shepherd dog, with which it should not be confused." But when you click on Bulgarian Shepherd, it redirects to this page. I don't know enough about the breeds to fix this, as I don't know how accurate it is, but if anyone else does, it needs sorting. Snorgle (talk) 21:43, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It would be very helpful if the article included an audio file of the pronunciation of "Karakachan". Breed fanciers in the U.S. use a huge range of wild guesses, emphasizing or eliding many different syllables, and using every conceivable vowel sound for the "a" in chan. Does chan rhyme with man, chain, born, khan, shin, or fun? Some guidance is sorely needed. Krnntp (talk) 19:16, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is a beautiful book by Kapka Kassabova where she exquisitely writes about her experiences living with the people of Bulgaria in a remote village where karakachan dogs, sheep and horses still survive, alongside shepherds. Its is a beautiful book where I first learnt about the karakachan dogs. 2001:B07:A9A:41D:74A9:9B51:E2DE:F1D6 (talk) 16:46, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
