Subsection exists under Chapman University. Brandman is affiliated with Chapman University but should have it's own page as it is a different entity all together. As of 2010, Brandman University has become a separate university, distinct from Chapman. It offers a unique adult learning environment. Wish to change redirect. Currently, Brandman University redirects to Chapman University. This is incorrect due to recent changes in structure. As stated above, Brandman University is a different university from Chapman University.

I am not affiliated with the college. I was asked by a member of the college administration to consider creating an accurate, neutral article for Brandman University due to the recent changes.

No objections here to a bold creation of the page. I've cautioned Jahoerbelt about the apparent conflict of interest he has, but it's still possible for him to write a well-referenced, neutral article.
To get to the redirect, click on the Article tab; when you get send to the Chapman University article, there will be a little note at the top saying "Redirected from Brandman University." Click on that link, and you'll get to the redirect page. —C.Fred (talk) 17:00, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There's text at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Brandman University that should probably be moved in for the article stub, although it needs some cleanup. Once the text is cleaned, it may take an admin to remove the redirect and move it to the new title, though. —C.Fred (talk) 17:05, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Making this article more neutral

[edit]

I want to make it as neutral as possible. Any suggestions? Jahoerbelt (talk) 15:39, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted a lot of the language that was biased-sounding. I purposely did not delete the advert box because I would like someone else to review it for neutrality.

The Article Reads Like a PR Piece

[edit]

For the purposes of an encyclopedia, this article needs more neutral and referenced language.

Request to reverse edit/add alumni

[edit]

Hello. I represent the Brandman University Office of Public Affairs and would like to request an edit.

Specifically, I would like to undo an edit made at 23:38, 22 January 2021‎ to remove the names of three alumni. We consider the removal of alumni who received awards for public service, especially a National Teacher of the Year, (Chauncey Veatch, the 2002 awardee: https://ntoy.ccsso.org/past-national-teachers-of-year/) to be unwarranted. I respectfully request the following content to be restored in the article's Alumni section.

Chauncey Veatch – 2002 Teacher of the Year[24]
Cindy Smith – Recipient of the 2011 PublicCEO Service to California Award[25]
Janice Voshall – Recipient of the 2011 PublicCEO Service to California Award[25]

I would also like to request Footnote 25 (the citation for Ms. Smith's and Ms. Voshall's award), be updated to this link: https://www.publicceo.com/2011/03/commending-two-brandman-students-on-their-award/

We anticipate nominating additional alumni for inclusion. Please advise how you would like us to proceed in adherence to your COI policy.

Thank you.

More importantly, when an article like this includes a list of notable alumni, the expectation is that the named alumni are notable in their own right. Simply put, if they don't have their own article, they may not be listed in this one. —C.Fred (talk) 19:43, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The community has rejected the idea that independent notability is required for inclusion in an embedded list; both WP:LISTBIO and WP:N make this clear. With that said, the evidence presented thus far do not indicate that these specific people are sufficiently noteworthy - independent or in the context of this specific subject - to merit inclusion in this article in an embedded list. Recommend change to UMass Global

Update Request - Name Change to UMass Global effective as of Sept. 1, 2021

[edit]

Hello. I'm writing from UMass Global (formerly Brandman University). I wanted to request an update to this page since we officially adopted the name University of Massachusetts Global (UMass Global) as of Sept. 1, 2021. The press release from the University of Massachusetts system has more info. You may also be interested in additional information from our accreditor, the WASC Senior College and University Commission.

Our transition to UMass Global is distinct from other recent developments involving other universities. Please allow me to highlight what we consider to be a few of the key points:

1) UMass Global is a private, nonprofit university operating in affiliation with UMass. UMass Global's headquarters is in Irvine, CA. 2) This is not a merger nor a sale (we're informed by legal counsel that a nonprofit cannot be sold). We are not a member of the public UMass system. 3) UMass Global (formerly Brandman) is no longer a member of the Chapman University System. That said, this timeline from Chapman is helpful to understand the university's evolution from 1958, when the first Chapman College classes took place at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, to the establishment of Chapman University College in 2001, and the initial use of Brandman University as our name in 2009.

I hope this information is helpful. Please contact me at <redacted> if you have any questions.

Proposed updates from UMass Global

[edit]

Hello. This is EdwardsBU from UMass Global again. We'd like to request a few changes for accuracy's sake. I hope it's OK to place all the requests in a single section. Please feel free to reach out to me with questions.

Proposal for Paragraph One:

  • Specific text to be added or removed:

University of Massachusetts Global (UMass Global), until September 2021 known as Brandman University, is a private nonprofit university with 25 physical campuses throughout California and Washington, and a virtual campus online. The university offers more than 90 degree, certificate, credential, and professional development programs for working adults. Brandman was a separate regionally-accredited university within the Chapman University System. UMass Global is the result of Brandman leaving the Chapman University System and forming a new affiliation with the University of Massachusetts in September 2021. UMass Global retained its regional accreditation from the WASC Senior College and University Commission. Gary Brahm is the appointed chancellor of the university.

  • Reason for the change:

These proposed changes would update the numbers of UMass Global's campuses and program offerings to current levels. The proposed edit to the language on accreditation is intended to clarify that the university still has regional accreditation.

  • References supporting change:

Campus locations: https://www.umassglobal.edu/about-umassglobal/campus Number of programs (home page): https://www.umassglobal.edu/ Accreditation: https://www.wscuc.org/institutions/umass-global/

Affiliation details (press release): https://www.umassglobal.edu/news-and-events/news/university-of-massachusetts-chapman-university-announce-transfer-of-brandman-university

Done. I used this article, which was already cited on the page, in place of the press release. Heartmusic678 (talk) 15:18, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Proposals for Paragraph Two:

  • Specific text to be added or removed:

UMass Global’s institutional history begins in 1958. That was the year when faculty from then-Chapman College first delivered on-base classes at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Orange County, California. Chapman's expansion of educational services to additional military facilities resulted in its formation of a Division of Residence Education Centers to manage their operations. These centers evolved into the College of Lifelong Learning, which in 2001 became Chapman University College. Chapman University College was incorporated in 2008, and received the Brandman University name in 2009. The university adopted its current name, University of Massachusetts Global (UMass Global), in September 2021 after exiting the Chapman University System and beginning a new affiliation with the University of Massachusetts system. UMass Global still has a presence on military bases, with campuses at Naval Base Kitsap, Naval Air Station Lemoore, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Travis Air Force Base, and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. Military Times rated the university, while the Brandman name was still in use, as being among the nation’s “Best for Vets” universities for 2021.

  • Reason for the change:

These proposals are intended to correct and clarify UMass Global's institutional history. For example, it would not be correct to say Brandman was established in 1958, as that name was not in use at the time. These proposals would also provide more current info related to a third-party assessment of the university's relationship with students who are veterans.

  • References supporting change:

Proposals for Paragraph Five:

  • Specific text to be added or removed:

In September 2021, Brandman affiliated with UMass via a change of control agreement. The development followed UMass' announcement two years prior that it would launch an online affiliate. The arrangement calls for Chapman to receive $96 million from UMass Global, with disbursements to be made over a 10-year term. UMass Global has also agreed to buy its Irvine, California campus/headquarters for $37 million. There will be leadership and oversight overlap between the UMass Board of Regents and that of UMass Global.

  • Reason for the change:

These proposals are intended to correct details of the Brandman-to-UMass Global transition. The reaffiliation was not actually an acquisition. These proposals would also cite news sources with what I understand to be more accurate reporting on financial matters.

  • References supporting change:

Based on an interview with Don Kilburn, CEO of UMass Online, part of the deal to create UMass Global is that the institution will pay Chapman University $96 million over a 10-year period, with most of that funded in years 6 – 10. In addition, UMass Global will purchase the Irvine, California headquarters location for $37 million."

This reporting is consistent with information conveyed by the Boston Globe: "The University of Massachusetts system itself will not pay Chapman University to complete the acquisition, but the independent, nonprofit UMass Global affiliate will pay Chapman University a total of $96 million over the next 10 years, almost all of which will begin to flow in five years, according to a spokesperson. Brandman University brings to UMass Global annual operating revenue of about $130 million annually, plus about $50 million in cash."

Done. I did not include the blog source as a citation, because they are not always considered reliable sources. Thanks, Heartmusic678 (talk) 12:43, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Leadership Update Request

[edit]

Hello, this is Andrew Edwards again from the Public Affairs Office at UMass Global (I previously requested edits as EdwardsBU).

I'd like to let you know that the information on our chancellor and provost here is no longer current. Thank you for considering these suggested updates.

(For the end of Paragraph 1) David W. Andrews is the appointed chancellor of the university.

Link to Andrews' wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_W._Andrews&_welcomesurveytoken=qg14iujnhr3s6po80m5erjic6h35dd66&source=welcomesurvey-originalcontext

FYI: We are also included in the 2022 edition of the Best for Vets rankings, in case you can also update Paragraph 4:

Military Times ranked the university as one of the nation’s “Best for Vets” for 2022. Sources: https://www.umassglobal.edu/news-and-events/news/umass-global-earns-spot-on-military-times-best-for-vets-colleges-rankings

Finally, I'd like to ask if the disclaimers at the top of the article can be removed. I did attempt to edit the page myself before learning of the conflict of interest policy. AFAIK, all updates I have requested since then have followed Wikipedia's protocols. I'm not aware of any current contributions to the article having been made by someone with a close connection to UMass Global.

Thank you, Andrew Edwards UMass Global

COI and POV banners removed

[edit]

After reading through the article today, I find myself feeling that the tone of the article feels a little more peacock-y than we might like. However, I don't feel like the overall neutrality of the article is tainted, so I have removed the POV tag. If there's an issue that isn't getting full treatment, feel free to mention it here.

Likewise, since I have no connection to UMass Global, this independent editor feels the text is sufficiently neutral, and I have removed the COI tag. —C.Fred (talk) 00:57, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ElKevbo: Hmmm... and what's the reason for {{Request edit}} redirecting to the Protected edit request templates? Clearly that (as well as {{Edit request}}) needs changing, in order to prevent something similar being caused in the future, by users who Assume Good Faith (such as myself) and also have no intention whatsoever to tell people that they can make edits which are "substantive, promotional edits". Looks like the correct template should have been {{Edit COI}}, although it may seem impossible for it to detect that it's what is required.
