Requested move 16 February 2019
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Moved per WP:COMMONNAME. (non-admin closure) Xain36 {talk} 17:49, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
BlackBerry Messenger → BBM (software) – It seems like the full name is no longer used at all. If you go to the website http://bbm.com/en/ there is only "BBM" and no mention of "BlackBerry Messenger". Also on the App Store and Google Play Store it is called "BBM". So, it is now just called "BBM". I'm sure this has been the case for quite a while now but the page hasn't been updated (most likely because it's not a popular topic anymore). ממשמזמן (talk) 18:17, 16 February 2019 (UTC)--Relisting. Xain36 (talk) 16:07, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose, BBM is an occupied title, and there is no evidence that this is the primary topic of that term. bd2412 T 18:42, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose Unlikely that BBM (in this context) is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:51, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Correction
- @BD2412 and Lugnuts: I apologize I have made a mistake. My move request title should've been "BBM (software)" since I was aware that BBM is already a disambiguation page. I have now changed the move target, so would like your updated opinions on the correct title request. Thanks. --ממשמזמן (talk) 14:20, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- I have no opinion on the prospect of moving this to BBM (software). bd2412 T 15:58, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- Comment: It doesn't make sense not to rename a software article to its new name. --ממשמזמן (talk) 15:00, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- We follow reliable, secondary sources. If they don't yet reflect a name change, we do not either. You should consider presenting evidence in accordance with WP:NAMECHANGES and WP:OFFICIAL if you'd like the request to go through. Dekimasuよ! 19:36, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Dekimasu: I have presented secondary sources below that back my claim. --2ממשמזמן (talk) 15:09, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

- Oppose move? I have yet to see any reliable sources refer to the subject solely as BBM. ONR (talk) 13:58, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- Officially:
- http://bbm.com/en/ - no mention of "BlackBerry Messenger"
- Semi-officially:
- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bbm&hl=en_HK, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bbm.enterprise&hl=en_HK - again, no mentions of "BlackBerry Messenger", just "BBM"
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA0J8NvzTEs - just called "BBM"
- Third-party:
- https://crackberry.com/bbm - the first line of the post says "BBM (formerly BlackBerry Messenger)", again evidence that the name has changed
- https://www.windowscentral.com/blackberry-ceo-confirms-bes-windows-phone - another news site where it says that BBM was formerly called "BlackBerry Messenger", evidence again
- https://www.androidauthority.com/whatsapp-most-popular-messenger-695099/ - a news article and it only says "BBM", not "BlackBerry Messenger"
- https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/03/07/facebook_bbm_lawsuit_long_overdue/ - another news article that only has the word "BBM" not "BlackBerry Messenger"
- https://www.technobuffalo.com/2017/03/02/bbm-gets-major-update-for-ios-and-android/ - another example
- When you got this software officially having a different name now, plus the new name is shown to customers/the public (through Google Play/App Store), plus the third party articles that refer to it only as "BBM" now, it is no question that this article should be moved. --2ממשמזמן (talk) 14:40, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- Support BBM (software). I see evidence above that the new name is used in secondary sources now, and no evidence to the contrary. --В²C ☎ 21:12, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- Support BBM (software): per the sources provided above establishing it as the WP:COMMONNAME and anecdotally from my personal experience as I've never heard anyone refer to it as anything other than "BBM". However, I am yet to see evidence that it is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of BBM, so I'm supporting the alternative proposal. SITH (talk) 13:51, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
BBM Enterprise
[edit]This article is written in the past tense, as if BBM no longer lives. But it does:
It comes in two flavours:
- BBM for Enterprise
- BBM for individual use
Both offer a free trial and (presumably) fee after that.
It would seem that this article is ripe for a rewrite to reflect the transition from freemium to premium.
