Assessment
[edit]I assessed this as "Start" class and removed an "analysis" section that contained an entirely unreferenced discussion of what Coward might have meant by the word "gay" in the show and had a paragraph about the 1940 film (which has its own article) that was not relevant to the operetta. This article needs a history/background section and a critical response section, for starters. -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:35, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- With the new Background section, critical response section, improved referencing and other new information, I'd say the article is now a strong C-class article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:48, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

[edit]The earliest reference I can find is The Story and the Song: A Survey of English Musical Plays, … page 52, Derek and Julia Parker (1979), though I can't find the text of this book online to see the details. It seems likely that the name has been embellished, if not the entire story. More research needed. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 13:41, 30 August 2024 (UTC).
- I see no reason to link it; it may very well be just a story that Coward made up, so he would not be notable. -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:52, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
