The page should be kept; the PCT manages a multi-miullion pound budget and is a public body. Further details are below.

Primary Care is the name given to the first point of contact that individuals, the family and the community have with the NHS. Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) cover services including GPs, dentists, opticians and pharmacists. Most of the nursing care in the community is also provided by the trust.

PCTs exist to improve the health of the local population and are also responsible for commissioning services from hospitals, GPs, the voluntary sector and others.

NHS Birmingham East and North was formed on 1st October 2006, following the amalgamation of the previous Eastern Birmingham PCT and North Birmingham PCT.

Known as Birmingham East and North PCT (BEN PCT) until 01 April 2009, the trust provides primary care, intermediate care and community services on behalf of 440,500 people living Britain’s second city. We serve a diverse and vibrant community that includes some of the most deprived wards in the country.

The trust employs over 1,700 staff, and is responsible for over 200 GPs, working in more than 80 practices. It is also responsible for Sutton Cottage Hospital and the John Taylor Hospice, Erdington.

NHS Birmingham East and North spends millions every year on services for local people; the trust also hosts the money to commission specialised services for people across the whole of the West Midlands. Rob,benson123 (talk) 18:56, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
