Proposed page move

As per WP:CANSTYLE#Neighbourhoods, this article should be moved to Beverly, Edmonton. In accordance with the guideline, however, the move is first being raised on the talk page.Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:33, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I propose a revert to Beverly, Alberta because I beilive this to be a misunderstanding. Beverly was once a seperate town and that is what this article is about. The neighbourhoods that once made up Beverly all have their own seperate entries under Category:Neighbourhoods in Edmonton using the "Nighbourhood, City" convention. --Kevlar (talk • contribs) 19:16, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

The fact that it was formerly a separate town isn't really relevant -- many neighbourhoods and communities were formerly autonomous municipalities, yet follow the [[Neighbourhood, City]] naming convention set out at WP:CANSTYLE. However, I think what you're saying (correct me if I am wrong) is that this article pertains to a historic place that really no longer exists, having been superseded by other neighbourhood names. If people no longer talk about Beverly as being an area within Edmonton (i.e. people now typically refer to the neighbourhoods listed in the article), then I'd support your proposed move because Beverly is more of a historic municipaliry and place name rather than a current place. If, however, people still refer to part of Edmonton as "Beverly", then it would strike me as being more akin to a community or neighbourhood, and WP:CANSTYLE should arguably apply. What's your assessment of the situation?

Informaly people still talk about Beverly. However it doesn't exist as demarcated place any longer. I believe this page should stick to history and when dealing with the present it should only list the present-day neighbourhoods that have superseded the former town, for the very good reason that we can find out official boundries and statistics of Beverly Heights, Edmonton or Abbottsfield, Edmonton because they are well monitored by the City of Edmonton. However anything written about Beverly, Edmonton (as a present-day place) would be speculation or original research because no official agency publishes any information about it. I believe this to be similar to the situation with Old Toronto with is about the history of the former city and not the present day situation of that area. If that doesn't gel with CANSTYLE then our guidelines might need tweeking. --Kevlar (talk • contribs) 04:49, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Proposed split discussion may have implications here

A proposed split discussion has been initiated involving the former towns of Bowness, Forest Lawn and Montgomery, all absorbed by Calgary through annexation. At presented, their [[Town, Alberta]] titles all redirect to [[Neighbourhood, Calgary]] articles. It is proposed that each neighbourhood article be split into separate articles for the neighbourhood (post-annexation) and former town (pre-annexation) for various reasons explained here.

At present, Edmonton's three annexed urban municipalities (City of Strathcona and towns of Beverly and Jasper Place) have their own articles utilizing the [[Town, Alberta]] title convention. The outcome of the proposed split discussion involving Bowness, Forest Lawn and Montgomery may have implications on the title of this article.
