Smirnov's first name?
[edit]Does any one know what the Russian commander Smirnov's first name was? I've spent several days trying to find out, and thus far have come up empty handed. —Salmar 01:08, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- Found! It was Vladimir Vasil'evič Smirnov. Source: ru:2-я армия (Россия). I invite those interested in this battle to have a look at my version at it.wiki --Gengis Gat (talk) 20:04, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
- This appears to be the article about him at ru Wikipedia: Смирнов, Владимир Васильевич (генерал) — "Vladimir Vasilyevich Smirnov" —Salmar (talk) 13:20, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
Real Name of Town?
[edit]I searched a bit on the internet fot Bolimov and couldn't find anything however after searching on google maps I did find Bolimów, Poland. If this is the real name we should change the title. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.213.67.178 (talk) 15:52, 7 December 2006 (UTC).
- Indeed, the real name of the town is Bolimów, not Bolimov (the latter is a transliteration of the Russian spelling of the town). As such, I suggest renaming this article to Battle of Bolimów.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 19:10, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- I realize that this is an awfully long time later to respond, and I have no idea whether anyone is watching this page, but I don't know whether this move was a good idea without further discussion. Most sources I've seen (I'll admit that I haven't studied the matter comprehensively) refer to this as the "Battle of Bolimov", and many that use "Battle of Bolimów" seem to be quoting, or mirrors of, this article. That "Bolimov" is the Russian spelling is not surprising because, at the time that the battle occurred, Bolimov/Bolimów was part of the Russian Empire. That the town is now called by the (I presume Polish) name "Bolimów" is a good reason to rename the article about the town, just as the article about the city formerly known as "Tsaritsyn" and "Stalingrad" is located at its current name, Volgograd. But we have not attempted to rename the Battle of Tsaritsyn or the Battle of Stalingrad the "Battle of Volgograd"! —Salmar (talk) 00:11, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
