Talk:Armorial of the Communes of Nord (A–C)
This article was nominated for deletion on 7 April 2010 (UTC). The result of the discussion was keep. |
This page was proposed for deletion by Fram (talk · contribs) on 7 April 2010 with the comment: List of as such not notable things. It is logical to add and describe coats of arms to each individual commune article, as has been done. It is not a suitable list for Wikipedia though to have a 4 page, 200K total list of coats of arms of (mostly) small villages in the same region. It was contested by David V Houston (talk · contribs) on 2010-04-07 with the comment: I believe that Armorials (lists of armoury (both picture=emblazon and heraldic description=blazon) of given entities - in this case French Departments) should be acceptable under the 'Notability' guidelines. |

Contesting the proposed deletion of this page
[edit]Fram proposed deleting this page and 4 others. Since they are all similar, there's no need to discuss all 5 separately.
1) Heraldry, while largely neglected in modern days, is an ancient and honourable art. Armoury (in this case Coats of Arms, with their images (emblazons) and technical heraldic descriptions (blazons) are very important to the people and communities that possess them. 2) Providing, in a single place, the collected armoury of a given department seemed an appropriate thing to do. 3) this information is not available in a single place anywhere else (in English or in Commons, AFAIK) - to get the equivalent information one would have to peruse literally hundreds of individual town's pages. Or one would have to be able to read the French originals. 4) While English Wiki policies differ from French ones, as I have recently discovered, the fact that every (mainland) department of France has an Armorial on French wiki seemed (and seems) to me to be a prima facie case for the appropriateness here. Prima facie = grounds for initially supposing, rather than proof. --David V Houston (talk) 17:31, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Coat of arms in question
[edit]The blazon for Anhiers reads: *"Per fess Or and azure, 3 fleurs de lys counterchanged." but the "fleurs de lys" are not specified in their arrangement. Since they are countercharged they should straddle the parted line. --Xavier (talk) 03:46, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Cleaned up syntax
[edit]There are many Wiki syntax issues with this article and its alphabetized related articles. I cleaned up many of them just now. --Xavier (talk) 17:38, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
