Aithaia
[edit]This village still exists and has a long history. It is located next to the town of Thouria several kilometres north of Kalamata. There is an ancient Mycenaean cemetery in the heights of the village. During Ottoman times it was renamed Delimemi and then changed back to Aithaia, its ancient name, in more recent times. This may be part of the reason why researchers in the 19th century had trouble locating it. A few years ago, there was a prominent article about exciting archaeological finds in Thouria, establishing the region's general archaic status. Considering the towns of Aipeia and Antheia also still exist and lie a few kilometres north of Aithaia, there is no reason to believe these named towns were located anywhere else.
