I had an opportunity a long time ago to see the original Ames chair in SF. It has nothing to do with the Eames chair. It’s based on the idea of forced perspective known to artists in the 15th century, later rediscovered by gestalt and perceptual psychology in the 20th century and presented as optical illusions in the form of demonstrations.
