Boston Area Adaptation
[edit]The Post-Meridian Radio Players, a Boston-area theatre/radio-drama troupe, staged an adaptation of WotW set around Boston, MA. http://www.bb1938.com. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rmd1023 (talk • contribs) 15:36, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
What is an adaption?
[edit]There seem to be a number of subjects that are less adaptations then pastiches. Some that are referential but not adaptations. I think that we need to define this a little more. Examples Secret wars is not an adaptation (I don’t recall Superman in the original). Indeed it seems that only the appearance of Tripods (and the fact the invaders are Martian) appear to be related to Wells’s novel. As such this may be considered to reference the novel but is not an adaptation. I would also argue that The Second War of the Worlds & Killraven Warrior of the Worlds are not sequels as they are set in alternative realities to the one i9n Well’s novel.Slatersteven (talk) 15:18, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Radio
[edit]There might be some justification in adding some of the reactions and panic that was created from Orson Well's radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. Very interesting and relevant material. Voice99 (talk) 19:18, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- That's more appropriate to the article on the broadcast. This is just about listing adaptations of the novel. However listings of productions based upon the hysteria are justified. I also just added a Doctor Who story that places a fictional story around the broadcast. 68.146.64.9 (talk) 12:18, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
"H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds (film)"
[edit]The usage and primary topic of H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds (film) is under discussion, see Talk:H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds (2005 film) -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 08:43, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Is this the oldest film?
[edit]I have a recollection of an older war of the worlds film, shot in black and white that was more faithful to the novel compared to the floaty UFOs of this movie.. am i misremembering it? 60.242.175.237 (talk) 07:31, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- I can recall no such film. There was a partially made film by Ray Harryhousen but that was colour.Slatersteven (talk) 10:54, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
1958 Portugal broadcast
[edit]Should we consider adding the 1958 Portuguese partial broadcast of The War of the Worlds onto these? I know that there's not much in terms of sources citing its existence, but it is referenced in this article from The World. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.94.156.206 (talk) 19:10, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
Games Section Lacking Boardgames
[edit]I myself own at least two boardgame versions of "War of the Worlds" The first being "All Quiet on the Martian Front" which is a H0 scale minatures wargame of uncertian ownership of this time, and "War of the Worlds: The New Wave" which is a boardgame version by Gray Fox Games. 97.88.85.53 (talk) 19:49, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
New sequels by Author Mark Hood
[edit]Twice I have had additions removed from the sequel books section where I draw attention to a set of new books by Author Mark Hood. The first time I was told that the references given looked "promotional", so I removed the references and re-published the information. I was then told the addition was reverted a second time because they don't look like "major works" (who decides what constitutes a "major work" - and where is this defined). These are published books with a major publishing house with ISBN numbers and hundreds of reviews on Amazon.
These reversions I believe breach Wikipedia's "revert only when necessary" policy. These additions were made in good faith and draw attention to sequels that War of the Worlds fans may be interested in. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.145.236.58 (talk) 14:05, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
- It is the job of RS to "draw attention to sequels that War of the Worlds fans may be interested in" not ours (see wp:not, we are not a means of promotion), as such these additions violated our policies (as they are recent and un remarked works of fiction, see wp:undue). As to what constitutes a major work, an independent third party wp:rs deciding to notice it, is the minimum, not promotional websites. Note as well that reviews on Amazon, or being published is not enough. Slatersteven (talk) 14:10, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
- Then what is enough? Many of the works listed in this article aren't referenced at all (e.g. Rust's War of the Worlds), or if they are - they only cross reference other Wikipedia articles, not independent third party sources (e.g. The Martian War: A Thrilling Eyewitness Account of the Recent Invasion or The comic book Scarlet Traces), yet those additions are given a pass. Also, what is mentioning a book if not a form of promotion......by this measure, you couldn't reference to any published work that is actively on sale. The only reference to the sequel by Stephen Baxter for example is the Amazon page from which this book is being sold - so surely that fails the "promotion" test does it not? These supposed rules are not being applied consistently and these reverts are overzealous - to the point of being churlish. 2A00:23C5:3527:C601:D0B:6C59:F95F:50A1 (talk) 18:33, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
