Team rosters

[edit]

I've removed the team rosters from the article as explained in this edit summary and this edit summary. This is a general article about all of the university's athletic teams so there should never be too much focus placed on one or two teams which loses sight of that. While it's appropriate to include some content about each of the school's teams, individual rosters and other excessively detailed information is more suited for individual team or individual season articles than it is for a more general article such as this. Not only will such information likely become outdated as one season changes to another, there are also WP:Namechecking, WP:NOTEVERYTHING, WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:BLPSOURCES issues that may come into play. This article is not a team guidebook or yearbook for the school's athletic teams and content which is properly sourced and summarizes the teams and their accomplishments is fine, but too much detail is unnecessary. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:32, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 16 November 2024

[edit]

– The whole thing is contrary to WP:CONCISE. When the whole school program/varsity team is referred to as a whole collective including all genders and age group, journalists usually use the university name or the "senior men's" team name by default. ("The Tigers clinched the overall UAAP championships", the "Green Archers are the current host of Season 99") I get the sentiment of being inclusive but if reliable sources find it sufficient to use the senior men's team by default then Wikipedia should follow suit. Besides we have WP:CONCISE. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 04:09, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose until NCAA teams are included; no objection once included. This was indeed originally found at "Adamson Soaring Falcons". Bagoto moved to be inclusive with women's teams, as per USA WP:CBBALL (I guess?) naming convention where varsity teams that have the a different name for women's teams, will have the women's nickname on the article title. An example is Kentucky State Thorobreds and Thorobrettes (compare to Kentucky Wildcats where both men's and women's teams are the Wildcats, unlike the Philippines where they may be called the "Lady Wildcats"). However, Bagoto either ignored or oblivious to the fact that varsity team articles in the Philippines encompass both college and high school teams, so following Bagoto's train of thought, I moved this to wherever the articles are now. How do we formally add Philippine NCAA teams? Or we could just procedurally move the NCAA teams depending on the consensus here. I cannot see any specific naming guidelines on WP:CBBALL. In my opinion, we do not have to follow the possibly only other country (US) where college sports has big importance. Cause as I emphasize, that using the default (without the Lady, Junior, etc) moniker is perfectly acceptable to refer to the whole athletic programs of Philippine university programs. The UST Growling Tigers can refer to just the (men's) basketball team, any of the men's team, or the whole sports program (including the women's and juniors). You'd have to add some templates as per WP:RM. Howard the Duck (talk) 21:32, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Additional pages (UAAP)

Additional pages (NCAA)

For reference Ateneo Blue Eagles and UP Fighting Maroons does not need moving since they have adopted the same moniker (without the gender and age modifier) across all sports. Any feminine and junior nicknames can still be mentioned in prose, the infobox, and appropriate tables.

I do not know how to formally add these articles in the move request, but im listing it all here nevertheless.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 05:48, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I tried adding it but it didn't work. Howard the Duck (talk) 23:58, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that you'd have to start anew. I have the written the code above if needed. It's only the two of us here yet, so there should be no arguments no one was informed that parameters have changed. Howard the Duck (talk) 00:01, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nuke this proposal. We won't get help even from other people (LOL). Howard the Duck (talk) 02:02, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This may not be even controversial to begin with. Your oppose was just because I didn't include the other teams. I should have just moved these unilaterally to begin with. Then open an RM if it does get challenged.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 10:09, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that these proposals are in reverse format compared with the ones in this move request. In addition, the first of these proposals is a redirect, which is ineligible to be a current title in a move request. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 01:40, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
