[edit]why is this statement in this wiki entry?
The history of abstract film is highly contested, with various groups of artists and their supporting critics/historians fighting over which artists to include and which to exclude from its development.
that could perhaps be said to be true of most film history and criticism
anyway, looking at sitney, legrice, moritz, etc etc all seem to consistently have the same artists in their writings. don't think your statement is necessary or supportable, 'fighting' and 'highly contested' is not the correct tone here
