Both links remain on the main page but I 'deactivated' them as neither work, any replacements? Supertouch (talk) 13:01, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Death

[edit]

The article currently states that "Arnaoot died in 2004 in Damascus under quasi-house arrest and without leaving a successor". This is sourced from the book "Religion and State in Syria: The Sunni Ulama from Coup to Revolution (Cambridge Middle East Studies)". As per WP:IRS and WP:SCHOLARSHIP this is a reliable source and hence the content should not be removed. If you think otherwise, please put your reasons here. Thanks RookTaker (talk) 17:18, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, as his grandson, I have confirmed with family members (sons and daughters, and wife, etc) that this is incorrect. I understand it may be a reliable source, but it is completely false, and I am not sure where they have sourced this information from. As such I cannot provide citations, however if you require evidence of our connection, I am happy to provide some (E.g. documentation, photos, etc) Adam arnaout (talk) 19:33, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Adam arnaout:, Wikipedia has rules regarding reliable sources. Please read WP:RS for details. I'm sorry, but personal experiences are not regarded as reliable otherwise anybody could add anything to any article. On the other hand Dr. Thomas Pierret is an academic. His work Religion and State in Syria: The Sunni Ulama from Coup to Revolution was published by Cambridge University Press. All of this makes the source reliable by Wikipedia's standards. If you disagree with the content then you need to bring reliable sources as proof of the contrary. RookTaker (talk) 10:13, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
