[edit]Summary could possibly be expanded as follows:
The film starts with Tim Baker (Tyrone Power), a handsome daredevil pilot who lives for the moment, delivering military aircraft from the neutral USA to the UK in 1940, where he joins the Royal Air Force. In London, he meets an old flame, Carol Brown (Betty Grable), who by day is a first aid volunteer and at night sings in a club, which gives an opportunity to show her legendary legs. She is however attracted to his superior officer, Wing-Commander Morley (John Sutton), who has bags of English upper-class charm and a large country house to go with it. The mood changes when the Germans launch their attack on France and the RAF is thrown into the war. Baker and Morley fly off together to bomb Dortmund, have to bale out of their damaged machine over Holland and escape back to the England by boat. Tim is then switched to fighters and gets his revenge on the Luftwaffe over the beaches of Dunkirk, but is again shot down and evacuated back to Britain by sea. Carol and Morley are overjoyed to see him, but we are left wondering how often he will return.
