Fix rankings

[edit]

It should not be seedings in the first column, it should be current ranking. Otherwise the mandatory asterisk gets all screwed up. It is against Wikipedia rules to only use color. Fyunck(click) (talk) 10:06, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done I fixed it, and the ATP Finals chart. Fyunck(click) (talk) 07:26, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Points breakdown

[edit]

Can we just stick with the rule issued by the WTA and not inventing any kind of regulation, please? ATP has a system that is different from WTA's. "They've done like that" is one of the worst rationales in community. Let alone, the current ATP Finals points breakdown is also problematic. We should focus on the clarity of the rule by design, rather than aesthetics. Unnamelessness (talk) 07:59, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Omission of rule

[edit]

There is one rule that has been left out. In order for a player to qualify for the WTA finals they must have played in at least 8 WTA 1000/500 events. This rule comes before finishing in the top seven or winning a Grand Slam event. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.58.193.120 (talk) 22:54, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a source for that? Fyunck(click) (talk) 23:39, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The 2024 WTA Rulebook, Section VI, B 2a. 143.58.193.120 (talk) 22:45, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Points distribution

[edit]

@Fyunck(click) and Qwerty284651: As per the 2024 rule book, Section II, A, 2, if my understand is correct, top players have to play six 500 tournaments, otherwise they will receive a 0-point penalty that would occupy one of the seven "best other" slots regardless of other results for each tournament they miss, right? Unnamelessness (talk) 14:04, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That's the way I read it also, although it doesn't say "penalty." They simply receive zero ranking points. There are all kids of exceptions, including doing certain promotional stuff and being 34 years old. I was amazed that the "years of service" does not give you an allowed bye for the 1000 level events. Also, as discussed above, you don't qualify at all unless you play a minimum of "eight (8) WTA 1000 Mandatory or WTA 500 Tournaments" during the year per VI B 2a. By the way Qwerty284651 has permanently left Wikipedia. Fyunck(click) (talk) 16:55, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that is probrably one of the most, if it is not the most, fragile rules WTA has ever introduced. Players could actually drop their race to the finals points throughout the year. Świątek has two more 0-point penalties yet to be received and will be received before the YEC, and subquently would drop 195+120 points. Amazing!
