The year in jazz? Where?

[edit]

The name of this lists suggests it will cover events in jazz during the year 2016. What events? Where? Most of this article is about evens and musicians in Norway, Finland, and Sweden. And, not surprisingly, many of the sources are in foreign languages. I should not have to remind the editor that jazz is an American genre. It originated in America. Does this article put the interests of readers first? Or did a Wikipedia editor start this article because they are interested in it?. Let's put the readers first. Let's be democratic. How many readers are interested in Norwegian jazz? Very few. Even in Norway. Time could be better spent somewhere else.Vmavanti (talk) 12:45, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Without a doubt, Knuand has been assiduous over a long period in bringing a Scandinavian perspective to extending jazz articles on en.wikipedia. Personally, I see that as being for the general good (and would be alarmed by any suggestion that a knowledgeable editor should desist from contributing referenced content to the encyclopaedia). If it sometimes results in inbalance in year overview articles such as this, which are by definition never finished, always extendable, then others can redress the balance by adding content. • Regarding article referencing: I see no problem with citing non-English sources. (This is especially so in these days when the combination of access to articles and tools makes a rough translation available in seconds - I am old enough to recall the frustrating days when an interesting-looking text would not yield.) There have been times when evaluative texts (e.g. by Ekkehard Jost) have been unavailable in English, but no less valuable. However, both for English and other language sources on an article such as this sources need to be evaluated. Caution is needed regarding any commercial products, such as a festival: the website or press releases of the festival roster are WP:PRIMARY sources; to justify inclusion here, evidence is needed that the event was of note, such as reviews from a national newspaper.
