This article could be improved by reorganizing into sections like "Backgrouns" "Causes" "Participants" "Critiques" and a timeline of events.Zavtrakat (talk) 21:56, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bias in "Demands" section

[edit]

I feel that the section titled "Demands" may be substantially biased in favor of the protesters. Language like "deliberate underfinancing", "high parents' payments", "allow private banks to finance" (as if they must be allowed to do this), and "already high tuition fees" lack objective support and seem to reflect only the point of view of the protesters. --Joel7687 (talk) 08:46, 28 August 2011 (UTC) Demands has been significantly reworked, using as a base the actual demands of the Acuerdo Social and not a news story.Zavtrakat (talk) 15:23, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sides

[edit]

Please make your opinions known about the utility of a "sides" infobox, clearly delineated the main parties to the conflict: Confech, the government, secondary students, etc. This box has been repeatedly deleted and added and therefore should be discussed before further action is taken. The box does not appear on the Spanish version. Zavtrakat (talk) 13:46, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A box showing the parties to the conflict is useful IMHO. We shouldn't base our article on the Spanish thing.  Diego  talk  13:49, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the idea of the box... it quickly summarizes the participants. But on the other hand, it is a bit simplistic and even wrong. The Communist Party is not officially behind the conflict (which has included slogans like "El pueblo unido avanza sin partido") and the carabineros are not the "enemy" (Camila Vallejo specifically noted "neither the police nor private property are our enemies" or something very similar). But frankly, I could go either way on the box.Zavtrakat (talk) 20:38, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I do get the point, however it is clear Carabineros are supporting one side, and the Partido Comunista is supporting another (it may not be supporting officially, but most of the party leaders have appeared on TV talking about their support and commitment to the student movement, so I'd say it's official-unofficial :P). The box thingy is alright IMO.  Diego  talk  22:19, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
alledged unofficial support can be discused elsewere in the text not in a speedy overview box.Chiton magnificus (talk) 15:44, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On why the box should be removed

[edit]

Remove box (and if not clean it up). The box implies WP:OR, there is no source that state that there are "two sides" with the composition said in the box, for example who says that Coalition for Change fully supports the government where is the source? Several weeks have now passed without anybody providing sources. I guess one week more and then the box needs to cleaned up of unsourced things (if its not deleted).

Also its ridiculous to have the carabineros on the government side. Carabineros have no opinion on the education issue. Carabineros does not support the goverment, they support the law. By the way their inclusion is also unsourced. Chiton magnificus (talk) 08:10, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please, add a citation or delete carabineros on the government side. i was reading the article and found the box misleading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.72.134.156 (talk) 18:27, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ongoing?

[edit]

Are these protests ongoing? I haven't heard anything about them in a long time. Charles Essie (talk) 21:08, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
