Merge
[edit]The overlap between the 2010 UCI ProTour and 2010 UCI World Ranking articles is pretty big, because the UCI World Ranking is determined from the races which make up the UCI World Calendar, which are races in the UCI ProTour and the Historic Calendar. It seems to me it would be better if we made just one article out of it, and explained the different components that make up the top band of racing rather than have several pages just explain a different bit. That page, I think, should be at 2010 UCI World Ranking or preferably at 2010 UCI World Calendar (because the ranking is determined from points scored in the calendar, not the other way around). - I completely agree... I noticed this "problem" last year, the first with the new ranking system! The articles should be merged into one, since all of the ProTour-races are included in the ranking system. We could just make another column which specifies if the race was ProTour, European Tour, Asian Tour, etc... I also support merging them into a new article space, but I think it should include the word "road", so that it isn't mistaken for track cycling, mountain bike, etc... And preferably drop the word "calendar", and call it something like 2010 UCI road cycling season! (...or else 2010 UCI Road Calendar works!) lil2mas (talk) 02:03, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
- BTW: The merge should apply for the 2009 UCI ProTour and 2009 UCI World Ranking as well... lil2mas (talk) 02:05, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose The two are not co-terminal: there are 16 races on the ProTour and 26 in the Rankings Calendar. The ProTour started in 2005 and the Rankings in 2009. There are 18 teams that are members of the ProTour, but no membership as such of the Rankings system. The ProTour ceased being a season long competition in 2008, the Rankings took over this role. The ProTour as a series of races is essentially a sub-section of the Calendar, but as a category of teams it is independently important. Kevin McE (talk) 19:38, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
- So why not have an article which explains what UCI ProTeams are and cut all the confusing duplicated information about the races (which, as a section, is covered by the 2010 UCI World Ranking article)? SeveroTC 12:32, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
- Drop the last two columns in the table in 2010 UCI ProTour, and the problem should be solved. --Pirker (talk) 18:05, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't think the yearly ProTour articles are necessary post-2008. Of course it is worth mentioning who is and is not a ProTour team each year, but that can easily go on this article. Nosleep (Talk · Contribs) 20:18, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
The flags
[edit]I'm not really sure they should be there at all, but if they're meant to show the nations through which an event runs, don't the Giro and the Tour need Dutch flags? Nosleep (Talk · Contribs) 05:59, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
- Nope, that would be all wrong. The Giro is an Italian race, and the Tour is a French race. Comparing your proposal to ice hockey (if you are familiar), the National Hockey League should be considered Swedish, Finnish and Czech, because they played 6 opening games in Europe this season... Don't think Americans would've liked to see in front of the NHL-name! Having hurts enough =p hehe... lil2mas (talk) 13:05, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
- The UCI only state one country per race (although for the Eneco Tour they just have "---"). SeveroTC 13:23, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
