What if tables
[edit]What are these tables all about? How do you read them? Druryfire (talk) 13:16, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
- Someone started them during the men's world cup as a more compact way to show what must happen for each team to either advance or be eliminated (it really only works on the last day for the group matches, when each of the possible combinations has a definite outcome). The top row and the left column show the 3 possible results for the 2 matches to be played. So, if you want to know which teams will advance if, for example in Group A, China and Syria both win their last matches, look where "China win" intersects in the table with "Syria win" and you see that China will win the group and Syria will be runner-up.
