Deletion

[edit]

Can anyone give a logical reason for this article? The draft date hasn't even been set yet. Nothing can be said about this draft yet that isn't crystal-ballism. Thoughts before I nominate it for deletion?--Thomas.macmillan 22:45, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why delete it? It'll just have to be re-created as more information comes available.

Mock draft

[edit]

Including a mock draft in a Wikipedia article is inappropriate speculation. It would be better to link to a couple of mock drafts available online. CopaceticThought (talk) 17:09, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Withdrawn players

[edit]

How should we denote the college players who withdrew from the draft? We could remove their names, but that would probably defeat the purpose of writing a comprehensive article... BlueAg09 (Talk) 02:10, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about a separate list? —Bender235 (talk) 10:32, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki does not predict the future

[edit]

"Several trades resulted in players changing teams on draft night. The following represents a team-by-team list showing where players ended up after those transactions." This event is likely to happen, but considering it's the middle of the afternoon draft day, I find it funny that someone put this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.167.35.10 (talk) 20:53, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Entrants

[edit]

Now that the draft is done, should the Early Entrants and Withdrawn Entrants section be removed? Because I didn't see one in previous years' draft articles. 121.44.6.46 (talk) 06:58, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NBA Draft Lottery Malfeasance

[edit]

Does this quote, which is on the NBA Draft Article in wikipedia, strike anybody as highly unusual or unlikely? "Since the most recent change to the draft in 1994, none of the teams with the best chances ever received the 1st overall pick in the draft." Given the recent charges, with respect to Tim Donaghy, I think there should be a section in the article that details allegations that the NBA could be using the lottery as another means to control the business aspect of the sport. I have found two published opinions that makes this allegation.

-- Edwin Larkin (talk) 18:00, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see where that mlive.com article says the lottery was fixed. It suggests that before the NBA started using the lottery there were occasions when already-bad teams would stop trying to win games towards the end of a season ("tanking") in order to improve their positions in the draft. But even with the lottery in place allegations still come up; just last year there were suspicions that Boston, Memphis, and Milwaukee might be tanking in order to increase their odds of getting Oden or Durant in the 2007 draft.
That same article also claims that the team with the least chance has gotten the top pick more than once, which I believe is simply incorrect. Mild Bill Hiccup (talk) 13:26, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By allowing teams to obviously "tank" games to get picks is jeopardizing the integrity of the draft system. -- Edwin Larkin (talk) 18:36, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes

[edit]

I have made some changes on the article which are:

  • Removed '... as part of Joe Johnson trade' from the table, because the notes should be clear enough to see the complete trade. The tables are also appear tidier without those excess information.
  • I have separated the Trades section into draft day trades n pre-draft trades. There are several reasons for this, first, the draft day trades were much more important than the pre-draft trades as they involved the drafted players while the pre-draft trades were made before the draft and were not directly involving the drafted players. Also, by separating these trades, the section became more readable.

Thanks for your fine edits.—Chris! ct 01:06, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have done some research and I have find some more references for the 54th and 56th pick from '2008 NBA Draft Pending Transactions' page from prosportstransactions.com and 'Hornets Trade Kirk Snyder To Houston' page from nba.com. In both pages, it shows that New Orleans has the options to swap 2008 second-round draft picks in exchange for Kirk Snyder. New Orleans will receive the higher second-round draft slot between the two teams in the 2008 NBA Draft. Since New Orleans finished the season with 5th best record, they originally had the 56th pick and Houston with the 7th best record had the 54th pick. With the options to swap, New Orleans would get the better pick which is 54th, but the pick is then traded back to Houston in the Bobby Jackson trade. While Houston would get New Orleans' 56th pick which then traded to Seattle in the Carl Landry trade. I have corrected and added the info and reference to the article. Birth Year for International Players

[edit]

Regarding the re-addition of birth year for International players by User:80.38.79.176 that was recently reverted, I think it's because NBA.com list the birth year in the Status columns for International players in their early entry list. I didn't opposed the removal of the birth year as it was not significant as freshman, sophomore, junior, senior status and also the table looks better without them, but I also wouldn't opposed the addition of birth year on the table. Martin tamb (talk) 06:12, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think birth years are that important, but I guess I can let this go. But removing the parenthesis is unnecessary.—Chris! ct 01:32, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Chris! First sorry for not being logged and the undo without notify it. I think I was one of the firsts to introduce the class and the year in the intl players and I copy it from all the draft pages cause I think is an reasonable important data. I would remove the parenthesis too because with the small letters is clearly separated and they are used to notify the league (Spain) -> ACB, so it could be confusing. Anyway, it's not a big deal. Greetings. User:80.38.79.176 02:20, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I restore the parenthesis and the year. Hopefully, we are both satisfied.—Chris! ct 02:39, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lottery

[edit]

Do this article need a lottery section similar to those on 2007 NBA Draft or 2006 NBA Draft? Martin tamb (talk) 15:33, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
