I don't know the appropriate way to mention this in the main article, but Charles White's 3-yard TD run in the second quarter was named #10 on ESPN's "Worst calls in sports history." --Sinister Stairs (talk) 15:53, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sinister Stairs, that is correct. I remember that call extremely clearly as I am a Michigan fan and lived in southern California at the time. It was a Pac Ten/Big Ten officiating crew. A Pac Ten official correctly marked the ball around the one yard line and signaled, "Michigan ball". Then a Big Ten official came running from what seemed like twenty yards away signaling a touchdown. So why do the powers that be here keep removing my parenthetical note designating White's touchdown as "phantom" from the "Scoring" area of the 1979 Rose Bowl main page? Some kind of revisionist history thing I guess. Here's my note: (This touchdown has become known as White's "Phantom Touchdown" as he was awarded the score after fumbling and entering the end-zone without the ball. This has been confirmed by White himself). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emiterb (talkcontribs) 11:58, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
