Dale Hayes

Dale Hayes made the cut after two rounds of 77. He then played the third round scoring 73 which made the 3rd round cut too. However an incident in the 2nd round, involving a dropped ball, led to be a belated 4 stroke penalty. His 36-hole score was then 158 and he missed the 2nd round cut (156), his 3rd round being expunged. As a consequence the number making the cut was only 81 and not the 82 reported after the 2nd day's play. The top 80 and ties qualified so there was no problem with others missing out. Some confusion about Vicente Fernández (golfer)'s score. https://www.theopen.com/Heritage/PreviousOpens#!/1974/Royal%20Lytham%20&%20St%20Annes has 78-73-78-73=302 (T37 with Brewer). The EuropeanTour site has 78-72-78-74=302 (T37 with Brewer) (http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/season=1974/tournamentid=1974012/leaderboard/index.html#/results) as does "The Majors of Golf". http://golfmajorchampionships.com/year?year=1974&tournament=3 has 78-72-78-73=301 (T31, Brewer 38 on his own). The Times and Glasgow Herald both have 78-73-78-73=302 (T37 with Brewer) as does this US paper (https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=5aNVAAAAIBAJ&sjid=OOADAAAAIBAJ&pg=5995%2C2853625).
