The 1968 Race of Chamions which took place at Brands Hatch was won by Bruce Mclaren in his Mclaren M7A but the real stars were the BRMs and THE star was Pedro Rodriguez. From the start it was Mike Spence who lead comfortably until an oil leak forced his retirement - Mclaren wrote, in his weekly article in Autosport, that before Spence stopped, he (Mclaren) was having to avoid the oil that the BRM was dropping and that he could see it shining on his tires. Meanwhile, Rodriguez, who had started from the middle of the second row, had stalled on the line and given the field a significant start. With a few laps to go he was closing on Mclaren at about a second a lap and was on schedule to catch him at the end of the race when he came up to lap Jackie Stewart. His original overtake of Stewart, at Hawthorns, may have been a little aggressive but it was beautifully choreographed. So perhaps Stewart was resentful, whatever the reason he held up Rodriguez for four laps and the gap between the first two, at the end of the race, was just an increment over four seconds — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.180.94.140 (talk) 12:03, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
