Do we really need this disamb page? Yes, I know, that the Újpest FC is often shortend to Újpest, but I think a link to the club in the district's article is well enough. --Hu:Totya (talk!) 13:57, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PROD

[edit]

I've deleted the PROD noticed as I wish to contest it. A search for Újpest in the Search WP box throws up about half-a-dozen pages, some of which could legitimately be added here (I've put one in to be going on with) Thoughts? Swanny18 (talk) 00:00, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Swanny18: My thoughts are ... You have added an entry which is not the exact phrase "Újpest" and which is about a group of sports teams, from Újpest, the constituent members of which have entries on the page Újpest. The dab page remains an orphan and serves no useful purpose. In my opinion, without a comprehensive list rather than "one to be going on with" it now actively impedes search by attracting users who might otherwise continue to use the Search function. I stand by my original research and PROD designation (previously endorsed by another user User:Narky Blert) but this would now have to go to AfD. @Swanny18 and Shhhnotsoloud: I have moved the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC into a standalone lead per MOS:DABORDER. I agree that any further discussion should be through WP:AFD. Narky Blert (talk) 10:12, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Shhhnotsoloud and Narky Blert:: Fair enough: I'm never sure, myself, whether dab pages should broadly list all similar titles, to aid the search process, or narrowly contain only those with the exact same spelling. As for the difference between "Újpest" and "Újpesti", I don't know Hungarian but I surmised that it was just a grammatical variation (like including or omitting a definite article, for example). I do know "Újpesti TE" has its own dab page, so would probably warrant a See Also mention here at least. The other items that came up, which I thought might go here (broadly speaking!) were: Újpest FC II (a 2nd Division side), Ujpest Dosza (maybe; it's a redirect to the FC page), Újpest Synagogue, Újpest–Városkapu (Budapest Metro), Ujpest-Kozpont (another Metro station), Újpesti Törekvés SE and Újpesti MTE, a couple more football clubs. Anyway, it's up to yous, Swanny18 (talk) 11:45, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Újpesti" means "of Újpest". Other than the football group, it has three meanings:

  • An alternate name for District 04 of Budapest
  • A smaller city part of the same district (Újpest within Újpest, crazy, I know)
  • A formerly independent municipality, annexed to Budapest in the mid-20th century; its territory corresponds to today's 4th district

It is also the name of two metro stations of M3, Újpest-Városkapu (Újpest City Gate) and Újpest-Központ (Újpest Centre) but since both have the name of the district in their names, neither of them is commonly referred to as Újpest only (though the former is planned to be renamed, it's going to be "Újpest train station", which won't change anything in this regard...) – Alensha talk 17:13, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
