Title

[edit]

Maybe move the page to Plus but say in the artical that it is styled as + thoughts please. Cause in reality, the album title is actually plus, but it's just styled the plus sign. --92.30.169.244 (talk) 22:11, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article says - At the start of 2010, Sheeran was having what he described as a "rough time" ( trust fund bank transfers not coming through ) IS that accurate? It seems like a gossipy thing to say, and not accruate. Kiwipatricia (talk) 02:09, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

– Per the article itself, and a quick search on a search engine, the name of the "+" album is pronounced "plus". The fact that the article is titled "+ (album)" can be confusing for a considerable amount of reasons: (See below.) Steel1943 (talk) 21:49, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Not all languages pronounce the symbol "+" as "plus". (Yes, this is the English Wikipedia, but titles are usually only easily pronounced by others fluent in non-English languages when the word is spelled out in letters.)
  2. The existence of the article Cross (Justice album) which, per itself, is stylized as "†". (And, to add confusion, + album used to redirect there until I changed that a few minutes ago. In addition, + (Justice album) is currently a redirect to Cross (Justice album).)
  3. As of this moment, + is a redirect to Plus and minus signs#Plus sign, and it seems like the best target. At the present time, there is no hatnote in that section to refer the reader to either + (album) or the disambiguation page Plus.

Also, added to this move request is a request to move Plus (album) to Plus (Cannonball Adderley Quintet album); I have requested this as well for the following reason: if the main proposed move request occurs, the title Plus (album) should become a redirect to Plus#Music as an {{R from incomplete disambiguation}}, and the article that is currently at that title is blocking that change. The result of the move request was: consensus to move the page to + (Ed Sheeran album), per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 05:32, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Plus (Ed Sheeran album)+ (album)x wasn't moved, but this was - inconsistency. There's a better chance of someone thinking a plus sign is (in this case) pronounced "plus", than thinking a letter x (and it is a letter x, not a multiplication sign) is pronounced "multiply". Also, Maroon 5's latest album V is pronounced "five" - I'm guessing that someone who's not familiar with the album would think, without reading the article, that it was pronounced as the letter "v", so if that album can stay at "V", surely this can stay at "+". • Oppose per the previous move discussion. Leaving the title as "+" causes too much confusion with other existing titles currently on Wikipedia. In addition, the symbol "+" is easily recognizable as the word "Plus", unlike the symbol "x" as "multiply" (see X (Ed Sheeran album) for details). Steel1943 (talk) 12:47, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • In addition, trying to look up the character "+" poses a technical issue on the majority of search engines, including the search bar used in Wikipedia. Most search engines recognize the "+" symbol as some sort of search function request instead of a character. In fact, trying to look up "Ed Sheeran + album" on most search engines results in results only for X (Ed Sheeran album), most likely because "x" is considered a letter instead of some sort of search function symbol. So, it would be best to leave the article title where it is so that it actually can be located, bypassing any technical titling restrictions caused by most search engines. -- Calidum is that support to + (album) or to + (Ed Sheeran album) or both? Gregkaye 16:10, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Either of those proposals is acceptable to me. -- Calidum 00:15, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Nowhere in MOS:TM says that, and MOS:TM says "Avoid using special characters that are not pronounced, are included purely for decoration, or simply substitute for English words". The symbol "+" is a special character, so does "&", "!", ",", ".", "@", etc., and are used in several article titles, there is no exception in this album. © Tbhotch (en-2.5). 05:03, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
