Shimek, Simek, Šimek and Szymek are different spellings of a Slavic family name. The name is derived from Czech and Croatian Šimek and Polish Szymek. The name comes from a hypocorism of the name Simon (Šimon in Czech, Szymon in Polish). Shimek is the Anglicized spelling.
