Reza Fekri (Persian: رضا فکری; born May 24, 1992, in Tehran, Iran) is an Iranian operatic tenor recognized for his performances in both classical Western opera and contemporary Iranian compositions. He has performed internationally with renowned orchestras, including the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, and Helikon Opera.

Early Life and Education

Reza Fekri was born in Tehran, Iran, and displayed an early interest in music. During his school years, he joined several choirs and studied music under instructors like Göksay Yaran and Hüseyin Likos. He also trained in solfège and music theory with Loris Hovian and Alireza Shafaghinejad.^[1]

Initially pursuing a degree in banking and accounting, Fekri eventually shifted his focus to music and enrolled at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb, where he studies under Professor Renata Pokupić.^[2]

Career

Early Career in Iran

Fekri began his professional career as a member of choirs such as the Tehran Symphony Orchestra and Alborz Symphony Orchestra. He later transitioned to solo performances, taking prominent roles in productions like Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and Alexander Rahbari’s Alamdar, conducted by Rahbari.^[3]

International Recognition

Fekri's international breakthrough came in 2018 when he collaborated with composer Alexander Rahbari, who composed works such as So Spoke Zarathustra Spitama and Persian's Tragedy specifically for him. His performance of So Spoke Zarathustra Spitama premiered with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022 and was later performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.^[4]

In addition to his operatic work, Fekri has appeared as a soloist in Mozart’s Davide Penitente and performed with the Helikon Opera in Moscow. His repertoire spans operatic arias by Verdi, Mozart, and Bizet, as well as contemporary Iranian compositions.^[5]

Collaborations and Recordings

Fekri’s recordings include Morshed and The Sharp Tongues of Narcissi. Several of his projects, such as Persian's Tragedy and West-Eastern Divan Goethe, are under production and set to be released by Naxos.^[6]

Reza Fekri married Razieh Doorfa on February 21, 2020. He resides between Tehran and Zagreb, balancing his academic studies and professional career.^[8]
