Inclusion of Rabindranath Tagore is a belated one. Should have been earlier.

Saravan_p 2100Hrs, 14 April 2006

As Rabindranath Tagore is now a featured article. It deserves to be in the list. It was not nominated as candidate.

Confusion over Selected Articles

[edit]

Below is a list of articles that have {{Indian selected}} template on their talk pages but do not appear in the Selected article's page. I am attempting to bring uniformity to the Indian Portal's Selected Articles. Please suggest what needs to be done about them. Besides each I am giving my personal opinion what I feel about them.

  • Arts and entertainment in India (Remove as unreferenced)  — Removed
  • Ashoka (Remove as unreferenced) — Removed
  • British Raj (Can be included) — Nominated
  • Buddhism (Can be included) — Nominated
  • Diwali (Remove as unreferenced) — Removed
  • Economy of Bangalore (Remove as unreferenced) — Removed
  • Frog (Remove as not related to India) — Removed
  • Himalaya (Remove as unreferenced) — Removed
  • Hindi (Under-referenced but may be included) — Nominated
  • History of India (Well written but referencing is overall and not inline and may be included) — Removed
  • Hyderabad (India) (Disproprtionate weightage to certain sections and way too many red-links hurt its inclusion) — Removed
  • Indian Air Force (Remove as unreferenced) — Removed
  • Indian Army (Many sections missing hence should be removed) — Removed
  • Indian Navy (Too many stub-sections should lead to removal) — Removed
  • Indian independence movement (Well written but referencing is overall and not inline and may be included) — Removed
  • Indian rebellion of 1857 (Well written but referencing is overall and not inline and may be included) — Removed
  • Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 (Currently under merger discussion. Inline citations exist but ill formatted. Can be included after a copyedit) — Removed
  • Jawaharlal Nehru (Vey well written but completely unreferenced. Hurts its chances at inclusion) — Removed
  • Mahabharata (Well written and may be included)
  • Nepal (Remove as not related to India) — Removed
  • Ramayana (Well written and may be included)
  • Sanskrit (Well written and may be included) — Removed
  • Srinagar (Well written and may be included) — Removed
  • Srinivasa Ramanujan (Well written but referencing is overall and not inline and may be included) — Removed
  • Tabla (Remove as unreferenced) — Removed
  • Taj Mahal (Well written and may be included) — Nominated
  • Transport in India (Remove as unreferenced) — Removed

Please suggest how should we proceed about them. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 07:08, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My suggestion is to remove the template from all of them and nominate the ones you think are good. If others agree with you they will become Selected articles. As for the rest, leave them here for others to nominate if they disagree with you or improve if they agree with you. — Ravikiran 21:03, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Ravikiran. Remove all, and then nominate.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:04, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Selected article star

[edit]

Hi,

I've created a star template thing at Template:Indian_selected_article which is similar to the FA star. Should we start using it? Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 14:12, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wasnt there a similar star before? Any idea why it was removed/discontinued? -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK14:15, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure actually, although it does sound familiar. I've not seen it though. Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 14:32, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure there was a star before. Good articles also used to have a similar icon. I'm totally for this "selected article" star idea, but I think we should enquire the reason why the previous ones were removed before going ahead. -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK14:38, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure where the discussion took place, but a lot of such things were infact deleted after much debate. The reason given was that Portal:India is trying to circumvent Wikipedia's policies by creating a parallel featuring process. Most of the debate was on Shyam Bihari's edits, but alas he isn't very active now. If I can remember correctly, Sundar and probably Ganesh also took part in the discussion. If anyone wants the details, he should contact them. I happened to come across the discussion once and now I can't remember where I saw it. I can dig it out again, but it will take time. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 16:21, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From this, this and this, it seems the selected article star idea was taken back because it could easily be confused for featured status. -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK05:58, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I also found this discussion and this further down in the Good Articles archive. There indeed was a debate on adding the icon to the article main space. -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK06:01, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Deepu got what I remembered. It is quite clear from the discussions that a selected star is heavily opposed in the Wikipedia community. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 06:59, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed this star while trying to fix as many instances of {{click}} to ImageMap as possible, and I agree: this isn't a good thing to put in articles, especially as it will confuse new users into thinking that it is featured content (which it is not always). I support its removal and the deletion of the template. Nihiltres(t.l) 00:08, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CM's List

[edit]

List of Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu I nominate the article to include into Indian Portal ramtongauler 16:16, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi,
The list is excellent (even featured), but currently the portal does not have a selected list section. If it were, this list would have definitely made it to the selection. But currently, I am afraid it can't be considered. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 18:16, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is to notify you that there is a discussion taking place at WP:TFD with respect to templates using the Indian "Selected" content star; it is happening here. Risker (talk) 05:14, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
