• Veteran Colombian actor Teresa Gutiérrez dies in Bogotá at 81 years of age, the "Grandmother of Colombian novelas" had appeared in approximately 36 soap operas during her long career.[1]

February 27

• The Constitutional Court of Colombia rejects a referendum that could have allowed President Álvaro Uribe to seek a third term in office.[2]
• Former Colombian Minister of Defence Juan Manuel Santos announces his candidature for President after the defeat of the re-election referendum and vows to continue the legacy of Uribe. Santos now leads the polls. [3]

February 18

• Colombia's Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Luis Guillermo Plata Páez announced plans to negotiate a Free Trade Agreement with neightboring Panama in addition to the FTAs in current negotiations with the United States and the European Union.[4]

• Due to the effects of El Niño in Colombia, wildfires have consumed 31,000ha in 24 Departments according to the National System for Disaster Prevention and Response and the IDEAM.[5]

• The Carnival of Barranquilla takes off! The premier showcase of Colombian folklore and culture and a UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity dates back to the 19th century.[6]
