Calvinism is a theological system and an approach to the Christian life that emphasizes God's sovereignty in all things. It falls within the realm of Protestant Christianity and is sometimes called the Reformed tradition or Reformed theology.
The system was originally formulated by John Calvin during the Protestant Reformation, and was carried on by Reformed, Presbyterian, and various other Calvinist denominations throughout the world, many of which remain as Calvinist today as during the Reformation.
The primary doctrinal elements of the system are:
- Predestination (the most well known)
- The Five points of Calvinism (including Total depravity)
- Covenant Theology
- Regulative principle
