Park Ji-sung (Korean박지성; born February 5, 2002), also known mononymously as Jisung is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, dancer and actor. He began his career as a child actor, model and dancer, as part of the Nam Hyun-Joon and Kids dance crew. He became a trainee under SM Entertainment in 2013 and was part of its pre-debut trainee team SM Rookies. Jisung made his idol debut in August 2016 as a member of South Korean boy group NCT through the sub-unit NCT Dream.[2][3]

Park Ji-sung was born on February 5, 2002, in Seoul, South Korea.[4] He graduated from Mia Elementary School and attended Gireum Middle School.[citation needed]

Career

[edit]

2009–2013: Career beginnings

[edit]

In 2009, Jisung started learning popping from Nam Hyun-joon and continued to be active in his dance crew, until he was 11 years old.[1][4] He also worked as a child actor and appeared in various television dramas, films, and commercials.[4]

In addition to performing with dance crews and as a backup dancer for artists, Jisung also appeared as a child actor in several TV dramas, films, and commercials,[1] including the 2010 KBS2 children's program TV Kindergarten Funny Funny,[5] the drama Tree with Deep Roots, and films Crossbow War[6] and Go, Stop, Murder (2014).[7] In 2013, Jisung represented South Korea in the CCTV International Children's Concert held in China.[8]

2013–2015: SM Rookies

[edit]

In 2013, Jisung participated in the Mnet dance program Dancing 9[6] and was subsequently scouted by an SM Entertainment talent agent.[9] As his mother was a fan of TVXQ and SHINee, he agreed to audition and successfully became a trainee under SM Entertainment.[6] On December 17, 2013, he was publicly revealed as part of SM Entertainment's pre-debut trainee team SM Rookies.[10][11]

From 2013 to 2015, Jisung participated in the "SMTown Week" and "SMTown Live World Tour IV" world concert tours together with his future NCT Dream teammates.[12] In July 2015, he appeared in TVXQ's U-Know's music video for "Champagne".[13][14][12] In 2015, he was a cast member of Disney Channel Korea's The Mickey Mouse Club[15][12] during his time as an SM Rookies member.[16][1] In 2016, he appeared in the reality show NCT Life in Bangkok, which partly documented the 2016 SMRookies pre-debut showcase "SMRookies Show in Bangkok".[17]

2016–present: Debut with NCT Dream and solo activities

[edit]

On August 25, 2016, Jisung officially debuted as a member of NCT Dream with the single "Chewing Gum".[18][19][20]

In May 2018, Jisung participated in JTBC's Why Not? The Dancer,[1] filming took place in Los Angeles, America, with his seniors, Eunhyuk and Taemin from SM Entertainment and Lee Gi-kwang.[21] In September 2018, Park participated as a contestant on the KBS2 dance survival show Dancing High.[22][23]

In 2020, due to a knee injury, Jisung was not present for NCT 2020 Resonance promotions.[24] With the release of 2021's Hot Sauce album, he became the youngest K-pop idol double-million album seller.[25]
