Amdaeng Muen Kab Nai Rid (Thai: อำแดงเหมือนกับนายริด) is a 1994 Thai film directed by Cherd Songsri, starred by Chintara Sukapatana, Santisuk Promsiri, Duangdao Jarujinda, Man Terapol, Ron Rittichai, and produced by Five Star Production
The film was screened at the Focus on Asia Fukuoka International Film Festival in 1994,[1] The 10th Singapore International Film Festival in 1997, and the 7th Bangkok International Film Festival in 2009.[2]
Plot
[edit]Set in Thailand in 1861 when Thai women were treated as objects of no significant value, and men were legally entitled to sell or pawn their wives and daughters, Muen yearns to be educated. She learns to read from a young monk, Rid. Her father does not approve, and she is sold against her wishes to Master Phu. Muen pleads with Monk Rid to help her, asking him to renounce his vows so they can be together. After imprisonment, Muen escapes and runs away with Rid
