Karwan-i-Islami (lit. 'Caravan of Islam') is a non-profitable, non-political, religious international Islamic organization of Barelwi movement, and it is widely popular in Jammu and Kashmir (union territory) and in other states of India.[1]
History
[edit]It was founded in 2004 by the religious scholar Shaykh Ghulam Rasool Hami.[2] Allama Dr Shaykh Ghulam Rasool Hami Sahab Karwani Islami International is a non-political Sufi Islamic organisation founded in 2004 by its Chairman Allama Dr. Shaykh Ghulam Rasool Hami. Since its establishment, course with the overwhelming support of people from all shades of life is gradually progressing towards achieving the objectives of universal brotherhood, peace, unity among people of all faiths by spreading the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The main objectives of the movement led by founder patron, who is among the top-notch religious scholar of the contemporary world, is to achieve universal brotherhood by enriching the humanity in the light of teachings of Islam. 'Karwani Islami' International led by its founder and chairman Shaykh Hami has been fighting the drug menace and is still working day and night for the prohibition of alcohol/liquor and drugs in J&K which is the land of Sufi saints and till now over 70 thousand to 1 lakh youth get back to normal life by the continues efforts and skills by him with the beautification of Spiritual uplifting and teachings to the youth. Establishment of Shaykh Ul Alam Research University Under the programme “Minaz Zulmaat-i-Ilan Noor” of Karwani Islami International is another objective. In addition to this the other main objective of Karwani Islami International is the revival of Sufi culture and tradition in the J&K and other parts of the world. Spirituality is one of the desire to connect with the human soul. Sufism is the science of exploring one’s ego. Sufism is the name of finding traces of life by drowning in the world of spirituality. Shaykh Hami once said, “The meaning of Sufism is the purification of the soul. Sufism is the name of the spirit of sincerity which is related to the conscience which is regarded as the inner light”. A Sufi thinks in the knowledge of Allah and the focus of his conservation is Allah. He dies with the name of Allah and lives in the search of Allah. He sacrifices everything in the desire to see Allah and meet Allah.
Shaykh Hami in one of his Majalis e Zikir quoted that Sufism is a journey of love, a love affair with the beloved Allah. A yearning for this love of the beloved leads to oneness or unity with Allah’s presence. The transformation along the way is far-reaching and priceless. By educating the masses and deepening the spiritual concerns of the Muslims, Sufi’s and Sufi teachings by them have changed the society always. The role played by Spiritual teachers in spreading the message of love, mercy, compassion and peace has no alternative so far and there will not be. He quoted that love is the secret that Allah blesses upon the chosen ones. Love is like the Sun as because nothing on the earth can grow without the Sun light neither food nor anything similarly love is the Sun of human beings without it nothing is possible and there is no other meaning of life. Those people who are not in love with their beloved are deadwoods and stones and nothing can be grown on stones and deadwoods. This universe is running and functioning all because of love otherwise hatred has created hell in the world by disturbing humanity and peace. As we all know thousands of students travel outside of the state to perceive higher education because of limited resources here but, Shaykh Hami took the step to establish a highly decor university so that our students do not have to travel outside the state.
Shaykh Hami has fighting the war against the drug menace since 2006 which continues till now and also has initiated an offline campaign against it by receiving more than 7 lakh offline signatures against the use of liquor/drugs in the J&K. He further moved to the State Assembly where he filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the complete ban on sale and use of liquor and drug in Jammu and Kashmir. Also, it is on record that more than 50 per cent of youths of J&K both boys and girls are involved in drugs in one or another way. The rate at which the use of drug consumption is rising in J&K seems very alarming and society is witnessing a disaster that looks uncontrollable now and is covering more and more youths within it. We as a society should come forward and support the spiritual personality like Shaykh Hami for this great purpose that could be the only solution because the mission run by people like him is the need of an hour all else is poor translation. He has addressed Ummah and the in particular on this very serious cause and is keen in that the only way to get rid of this disaster is the implementation of Spiritual centres in addition with Drug Rehabilitation centres across the valley and other parts of the world because history has always witnessed that SufisItalic text revive the society through their teachings of love and compassionate message of true Islam. A Sufi has the spiritual and Meta physical powers that can encompass the true meanings of Islam and its teachings which leaves the impact on stone heart and deadwood people who are diverted from the actual path. Shaykh HamiItalic text believes that the main cause of disasters like drugs and other social crimes is keeping a child away from basic knowledge and teachings of Islam, the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the teachings of Awliyas. He believes that the most important thing that can help a society to get rid of drug disasters is the concern of parents and families towards their children. Shaykh Hami laid strong emphasis on parents to kindly monitor the activities of their children and keep a bird’s eye on them, track their daily activities, monitor their friend circle and keep parental access to their mobile phones that is one of the best methodologies and solutions in curbing the drug menace.
