Dr. Irshad Kamil (born 5 September 1971) is an Indian poet and lyricist.[1] His songs appear in Bollywood films including Jab We Met, Chameli, Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar, Laila Majnu, Aashiqui 2, Raanjhanaa, Highway, Tamasha, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Kabir Singh, Dunki and Love Aaj Kal.

Dr. Irshad has been nominated and won numerous prestigious awards for his lyrics in song-writing. He has won dozens of awards of Best Lyricist, the Film Fare Award, IIFA and Zee Cine Awards to name a few.[2]

Personal life

Kamil was born as the seventh child to his parents in Malerkotla, and belongs to a Punjabi Muslim family.[3] He studied journalism at the Panjab University, followed by postgraduate and PhD degrees in Hindi.[3]
