Fans of the new team were given 3 choices for names; the "Mississippi Mud Monsters," "Mississippi Grits," and "Mississippi Soul Shakers."[4][1][5] A name the team contest ran from September 9, and ended on September 26.[1] It was announced on September 27, 2024 that the "Mud Monsters" was the winning choice with over 5,600 votes.[6]
