The purpose of this talk page is to highlight the clear benefits of using the 02:19 UTC version of the image of Severe Tropical Cyclone Veronica, as captured by NASA's 'Aqua' satellite, as compared to the image uploaded under the timestamp 06:40 UTC. Furthermore, it is intended as a location to which disagreeing editors should be directed for discussions regarding this image. In particular, it is my hope that this page will facilitate discussion between myself and the IP editor who has continued to revert the image on the 2018-19 Australian region cyclone season article without explanation. By the very nature of IP editors on Wikipedia, it is impossible to contact them directly on their talk page as such a feature does not exist, and as such, they cannot be held accountable for their disruptive edits.
The first and very clear benefit of the 02:19 UTC image is that it has approximately four times as many pixels. As such, it has approximately double the resolution in both axes (250 m grid compared to 500 m grid, therefore four times better). As a result of this, there is significantly more fine detail conveyed in this image, when compared to the 06:40 UTC-labelled image which is a smaller file displaying unnecessarily reduced picture clarity and quality. As a consequence of this resolution reduction, and possibly also a result of less care being taken while editing the image, there is a faint light grey haze which covers the image. As such, the colours a less vibrant in the 06:40 UTC image.
A major issue with the 06:40 UTC image is that it wasn't captured at 06:40 UTC. The image is labelled incorrectly. The only image taken on the daylight side of the Earth by NASA's true colour imaging satellites Terra, Auqa and Suomi NPP at 06:40 UTC on 21 March was by Aqua. However, the image was of the southern Indian Ocean, more than 500 km southwest of the southwestern tip of Western Australia - thousands of kilometres from Cyclone Veronica. Furthermore, the description of the image states the date of the photo's capture as 20 March—the image contradicts its own name in its description. This date is even more incorrect, as can be shown without a sliver of doubt by the fact that Cyclone Veronica looked nothing like what is displayed in the image when it was 20 March.
There really are no objective benefits of using the incorrectly-named, lower-resolution, lower picture quality image with an inaccurate self-contradictory description. The 02:19 UTC image should be used in the article.
I will edit the article to restore the original image (02:19 UTC version), and direct the IP editor to this page. There is no other way to alert the editor otherwise. Once this has occurred, the image should not be changed to the '06:40' version without abundant factual evidence which directly refutes the points above.
