Use of OA Flap

[edit]

An OA flap shouldn't appear on this image because Venturing members are not eligible for membership in the Order of the Arrow and thus are not allowed to wear OA flaps on the green uniform. Only Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts are eligible and allowed to wear OA lodge flaps. I checked the 2008 BSA Insignia Guide first before posting. If I have made an oversight, my mistake and please inform me of where it is stated otherwise. -(Forgot to sign during first edit)Darthjarek (talk) 02:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Two points here:

  • The OA is a Boy Scouting program, thus elections can be held only in teams and troops. An OA Operations Update from 1999 clarifies this.[1]
    • The Insignia Guide merely states the where the flap is worn.[2] It does not show that Venturers or Cub Scout leaders may or may not wear the flap.
    • The OA site does state that Venturers may wear the OA flap.[3] Obviously, this is for members registered in a troop and crew who are also OA members.
  • Your issue is actually moot in this case, as the illustration does not show an OA flap. This is the flap of the Corps of Discovery, a Venturing service organization that is used in several councils.[4]
