This image needs a legend to differentiate which isomer is each one. The thalidomide page that includes this image says in the figure legend:

  Left: (R)-thalidomide
  Right: (S)-thalidomide

But I find that is opposite to what this image shows.

It is true that in the former version, 26 Sept. 2006 by Benjah-bmm27, the drawn formulas do not match the ball-and-stick models. This is corrected in the current version of this image (17 June 2007 by Eugene Zelenko).

However, the ball-and-stick models shown in both versions are left (S), right (R):

Hierarchy of substituents:

1- nitrogen

2- carbonyl C

3- aliphatic C

4- hydrogen

left structure: seen from below, N > CO > C counterclockwise, hence it is (S)

right structure: seen from above, N > CO > C clockwise, hence it is (R)

I am going to edit the thalidomide page and correct the figure legend.
