The ACT has now legalised civil unions, with a ceremony, however this is not reflected on the image file.
Queensland has now legalized Civil Unions and it is not reflected in the map or most of the articles in Wikipedia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.17.190.18 (talk) 17:23, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- I've removed the "Civil unions" tier from the legend. The first reason for this is that the name used in Queensland and ACT is "civil partnership" (not civil union), and such civil partnerships are not substantively different from those in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. It is true that both Queensland and ACT provide the opportunity for an official ceremony, but this is also the case in Tasmania (where the unions are called "significant relationships" rather than "civil partnerships"). Thus, the difference between Queensland/ACT and Tasmania is purely a semantic one, and I think it would be too complicated to provide separate colours for schemes that have an official ceremony and those that have no provision for ceremonies. Norfolk Island
[edit]Norfolk Island (NI) is not included on the map, NI needs to be included as a dot on the map - the island has its own Parliament with independent or non-party politicians only. Norfolk Island is located about 450 kilometres north-east of Queensland. Norfolk Island needs to be an orange dot because since 2005, under NI laws same sex couples are classed as de facto couples (in line with the rest of Australia) - just like the same orange colour of both WA and NT. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.148.207.230 (talk) 00:43, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Color Scheme
[edit]Hey, I am new to Wikipedia editing, but I was thinking we should update the color scheme on this file. I think we should do one that reflects the colors on the other maps here on Wikipedia. (Dark Blue for Marriage, Blue for Civil unions, exc.) What do you all think? I am open to suggestions. aharris206 (talk) 07:48, 02 March 2014 (UTC)
- Well YOU SIR have proposed a wonderful idea. Welcome to the site. I completely agree with you. I would propose that we redesign the Australia map to look like the one in Europe. I'm going believe that "De Facto" is essentially unregistered co-habitiation. Also, until a state passes same-sex marriage, the court has issued a ruling that state's marriage rights are the responsibility of the federal parliament, although Western Australia is going to try and pass one anyways. Since it would appear this page gets little to no attention, I'm gonna get to work on changing the colors and codes in the keys. Thanks for bringing this up! Happy editing! :) Chase1493 (talk) 06:50, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you, I'm glad to have brought up something that helps (: Aharris206 (talk) 22:31, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
