NOTE: This Georgian authorised map of South Ossetia (SO) slightly exaggerates Georgia's hold over the territory by placing a mountainous region of this territory under its control. In fact, this northeastern region of SO northeast of the Georgian controlled village of Shulauri is much too rugged to be inhabitable. However, most of Eastern South Ossetia including the important town of Akhalgori is populated by ethnic Georgians and lies firmly under Georgian administration.
In the West, the village of Sinaguri close to the western border of SO is placed correctly under Georgian state rule. The map correctly depicts the village of Avevni, 15 km west of Tskhinvali, under Georgian rule while the nearby town of Znauri is rightly shown as being under South Ossetian control. It also locates Tedeleti, in western South Ossetia (near Sinaguri) under Georgian control as this independent link confirms.[1] However, the village of Akhalsheni just north of Znauri is under South Ossetian, not Georgian control as this map claims.
