While the pictured rifle is claimed to be a M-16A2 and it does have the round hand guards of that model, the upper receiver is an "A1" model with the old rear sight. Additionally, the Forward Assist button on the lower receiver is the "teardrop" style of the older "A1" and not the round style "A2" version.

It's just an M16A1 with A2 handguards in place of the old style triangular guards. As the OP said, look at the upper receiver and note the A1 sights, tear drop forward assist, lack of a brass deflector behind the ejection port, and lightweight profile barrel. Also look at the delta ring (that thing situated between the handguards and receiver), it's the old style A1 model. The D ring on an M16A2, A3, A4, or M4/A1 is of a different shape.
