Suggestions welcome

[edit]

I have uploaded this now because as it stands it is much better than File:Ozark Trail completed sections w relief v1.jpg. But I intend to do more work on it. Obvious needs are better and more complete lake data – there's a big gap in the Black River where Clearwater lake should be – and I need to find river data for Arkansas and, to be consistent, for Illinois.

I am interested in what others think will make this a good map. I didn't include highways. They may be useful to show how to get to the trail, but when making the map I was mostly thinking about what would concern me while hiking the trail -- the terrain, including the rivers that need crossing. Highways could make it too cluttered, though I could try adding them to see how it looks.

Originally I didn't intend to include towns in order to avoid clutter, but figured they help add context. I included county seats and the occasional additional town of significance in a county.

I added the city names after adding the river names. The city names are more legible at that smaller size than I thought would be the case. I could recreate with smaller river names if that would reduce clutter and still be legible.

I will move this image to Commons after I make the fixes I discussed above and any others suggested that I like. I also intend to create another version of this map without the trail on it for the St. Francois Mountains article.

Suggestions welcome. --Kbh3rdtalk 01:20, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
