Mimeograph?

[edit]

Would this letter have been produced by the mimeograph process of duplication? If so, would McAuliffe's staff have typed up the original draft of the letter, and that would've been filed, presumably, and then they would've "cut a stencil" by retyping the letter using a typewriter w/ the ribbon removed from the machine so the keys struck bare stencil. And then that stencil would've been inserted into the mimeograph machine and copies produced? Fascinating to imagine how an Army produced correspondence like this for its soldiers during battle.
