I would just like to say that the expansion joint, as installed in this photo, would not work - the 4 tie rods (one is hidden behind the bellows) have nuts fully tightened up on both ends of the bellows, which effectively stop the bellows from actually moving, which is its primary purpose. If the bellows is prevented (as here) from compensating for the axial extension/compression, lateral movement, or vibration, it effectively just becomes a solid piece of pipe, and so cannot do anything. The corrugated bellows section has effectively been 'by-passed' by the rods being locked solid.

Wherever these joints are installed, they are not working ! The Yeti (talk) 03:47, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
