Wikipedia is not censored (per se). By censoring such material, Wikipedia becomes paradoxical and therefore debases itself. The content disclaimer sets out this issue in writing:

'"Wikipedia contains many different images, some of which are considered objectionable or offensive by some readers. For example, some articles contain graphical depictions of violence, or depictions of human anatomy."

"Wikipedia's current policy is to include such content, provided it breaches neither any of our existing policies nor the laws of the state of Florida in the United States, where Wikipedia is hosted"'

THe head is in front of the body, still in the leather hood used for hanging. As photos of beheaded people, this is pretty tame. On commons you'll find much worse, such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Lots_of_heads.jpg from the Nanking massacre article. S B H arris 02:41, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
